The Stencil Group Announces First Annual Stencil Awards

Tech industry's last, best chance to take itself less seriously

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – March 13, 2000 – Plans were announced today for the first annual Stencil Awards, to be held on March 30, 2000 in San Francisco. The Stencil Awards will be held yearly thereafter on or near April Fool's Day. The Stencils, a mock awards banquet recognizing the best and worst the dot com world has to offer, is the technology industry's last, best chance to take itself a little less seriously.

The Stencil Group (www.stencilgroup.com), proud parents of The Stencils, provide marketing and business strategies for B2B Internet companies. "Part of our own strategy in 2000 is to take the Internet industry a little less seriously, to get out from inside the dot com bubble," said The Stencil Group founder and principal Tim Smith. "These awards are our attempt to burst that bubble."

The Stencils Awards are based on the assumption that there is a fine line between winners and losers in this industry. It is therefore vital that both parties are recognized.

Individuals are encouraged to cast their votes for the inaugural Stencil Awards at http://www.stencilgroup.com/awards.

Stencil Award Categories
"The Stencils are more than just an awards banquet," said Bill Robins, The Stencil Group principal, "they are another way of looking at the technology industry."

"We think that there are plenty of industry events that are very good at looking backward," Robins continued. "While we will have a couple of awards that look back at 1999, the lion's share of our program is devoted to predicting what will happen, not what's already taken place."
