The following photos were taken during a trip that I took to visit family. Driving back to New York City with my brother Richard Rutkowski, a fine arts photographer, and director of photography by trade, we captured the events of September the 11th 2001 on both film and digital cameras. I later made a DVD of our photographs to properly catalog this unforgettable event.

Richard, being an active member of the NY photographic community, showed his photographs at the Here is New York exhibit in SoHo. One of his images was later used in the promotion of that show ,and also appeared in The New Yorker.

Although this was a very traumatic event for all of us, I was personally glad that I was able to be there to chronicle it. Not needing to worry about the safety of my immediate family brought me great comfort. I still remember what a beautiful clear blue day it started out as - and how all of the people that I encountered interacted in this time of crisis. I had never seen New Yorkers more connected and in service to each other.
